Now here what I discovered in Corsica a white fine sand beach situated in St. Florent which is apparently rare in France. My husband was also surprised to discover this place because normally white sand is not  common in France. From our village it only took us 1 and 1/2 hr travel passing by the  The Desert of the Agriates a rocky mountain and rather green panoramic view. The desert stretches between Alliso and Ostriconi villages measuring 16 hectares seeing bizarre geographical evolution which makes them more mysterious. From the beginning of the century, the Corsican farmers worked between thousands of olive trees, cultivates the wheat, harvests almonds, lemons and figs. While on our way to St. Florent the drive is just untiring because of the magnificent landscape even if  it’s a winding road I almost forgot that I have a motion sickness problem. There are rocks with its strange formation. They called it the desert because there are no villages nor people living in that area.

This is the centre ville of  St. Florent and you’ll find the nearest beach right under your nose.  In the center, you will find a lot of restaurants that offer more choices from budget wise, good deal to classy bars, restaurants and pizzeria.  Anyway, most of the restaurants will display their menus and tariffs to inform the tourists which is pretty more assuring. There are also little stores such as Petit Casino, Spar etc that will cater for you. If you  are a type of person who likes picnicking  it would also be nice to sit and relax while picnicking near the seashore. In our case, we went there to see the famous white sand beaches called Lodo and Saleccia beach.  We bought our ticket from Popeye. Here is the tarif : and schedule back and forth in crossing St. Florent going to Lodo and Saleccia beach.

Lodo or Lotu (in Corsican dialect)  beach has an easy access than Saleccia beach.  It would take you about 30 minutes to cross the sea and  you will already embark right away to Lodo beach while getting to  Saleccia is quite  difficult. You need a long walk  about 12 km or 4X4 drive but seriously not advisable to drive there with a standard car. To protect the island they prevent overcrowding the beach that’s is why there are schedules to respect . During summer  July and August could get busy.  This is just fabulous because finding  white sand beaches  in France is  definitely rare.  One advise, please bring something to protect you from the sun like parasol, tent and sunblock.  The place is so wild so think of bringing liquid drinks and something to eat while you are there.  They really preserve the place so you cannot find stores and certainly no restauranst to answer  to your needs.  I believe it’s  good that it should stay that way. Here is a slideshow of our little escapade to such a beautiful paradise.

It’s time to go for everyone to get back to St. Florent.  It was a very lovely day and we will surely  come back  on our next vacation to Corsica. This time we will explore Saleccia, welcome to 12 kilometers walk. Goodluck to us 😀 ! When you want to see white sand beach, you will only see them in Corsica. So sit back, relax and get ready to pamper yourself.

They called it the desert because there are no villages nor people living in that area, in short uninhabited area in Corsica.

This is the heart of of St. Florent with a lot of choices from budget wise, good deal to classy bars, restaurants and pizzeria.  Anyway, most of the restaurants will display their menus and tariffs to inform the tourists which is pretty more assuring 😉 . There are also little stores such as Petit Casino that will cater for you. If you are a type of person who likes picnicking  it would also be nice to sit and relax while picnicking near the dike.

You can get an easy access to the beach of St. Florent itself but it is not with a fine white sand. But If you really want to explore the La Plage de Lotu/Lodu and discover what is hidden behind this rugged mountains you need to take a boat and you can get them from the booth of Le Popeye which you will find in the Port of St. Florent. I would advise you to call them before for more inquiries.  Very organise and good service in traversing St. Florent to experience a breathtaking crystal clear turquoise water.

In our case we left at 9:30 to be there as early as possible but they have a time table to be respected and followed to avoid too much crowd at the beach. We needed to take our lunch in one of the restaurants in the Port because you will find no restaurant at La Plade de Lotu. You will only find white sand beach, yacths, tourists and trees.  So bring something with you especially water, sodas and light pack sandwiches. Do not also forget your sunblock and parasol as there are no shaded areas and it could be really really hot during summer season.

This is valid only for the months of July, August and September (summer season) out of season you may check the link given :

13.45 – 17:30

last trip 19:30 (return)

The ticket for adults cost 14€/head and for kids 7€/head. We were lucky they have given us free ticket for our daughter….how nice of them 😀 since she will not really takes so much place !

Finally, this is indeed a beautiful place and its worth traversing for only 20 minutes.

It was really surprising! Honestly, It was our first time to see such beautiful beach behind this rocky mountains of Corsica. Well, I must admit this will probably the second time as we already went to Porto Vecchio there are also white sand beaches but this one is exceptionally extravagant ! So what are you waiting for, next time you visit Corsica include this in your lists 😀 !

Happy New Year to all ! This site is somewhat neglected for awhile because of hectic schedule. Since husband is quite busy with his work if you will notice I am the only one updating this site and he wants to send his apology to everyone. Since I have my own site to update plus the kids site I didn’t have much time to consecrate an article and I owe you all. Are we forgiven ? Okay, since this site tackles more on travel will tell you about my first Corsica hiking experience.

Exploring the greatness of nature and all living things outdoor are probably one of the wonderful discovery of man on earth. Had the chance to cherished the beauty that lies in the mountainous rugged island of beauty. I am talking about the two lakes of Melo and Capitello. We were newly wed at that time so the trekking was easier. We just need to get dress, put on our hiking shoes, prepare lightly packed foods and basta ! At first the walking was uncomplicated and there is a refuge visible about 1000 to 1200 meters (not so sure) if you feel a bit tired and wanted to appreciate the view you but if you are a sportive type of person you could continue until the fist lake. Normally, for a fast walker you could reach the first lake Melo in about an hour it is about 1711 meters high. A bit of advices, a person should really be equipped with hiking shoes, a hat (during summer) backpack with snacks and a bottle of water…very important! Now when we reached the first lake I didn’t expect that it was that magical. The lake in the midst of this savage and rugged surface. We have stopped to appreciate the lake, was mesmerized by the view…it is indeed captivating! Get on with your swimsuit if you are not the type of person who easily gets cold you could also swim otherwise good luck ! The water is very glacial. I saw some hikers especially Germans who were courageously swimming in the lake as if it’s a lukewarm water. Seeing them made me tremble! We didn’t have our snacks yet co’z we started the hike early and followed our itineraries to take advantage of the time since there were few hikers when we went up.

We did not continue hiking up to the second lake thinking that Honey will climb with Mayumi in her back pack..not very pratical and could be dangerous. The lake Capitello is far more difficult, narrower, steeper and rocky. But when you reach at the top you will not regret it. You could compare it finding a treasure and it’s worth it. It is like a paradise. After having our little snacks while admiring its beauty to regain our energy. The lake Capitello measures 1930 meters high and a one and a half hour is reasonable for those fast walker. As for the German-French couple they’ve continue their hiking to Capitello since they are sportive and they hike very often.

This is the picture taken last summer when of 2007. We did the hiking with the Francofil and German-French couples. I was impressed how my son did the hike with us…very resistant little boy. Although we stopped many times because Capitello is quite steep so we just stopped on to the first lake. The hike will heat up and could be tiring at the end of the the journey. We’ve stopped at the first lake and had our pick nicking while admiring the beauty of natural views…an authentic portrait of true nature !

My children enjoyed playing in this freezing cold water ! They tried to dipped their feet and hands. I was afraid when they told me they would like to swim ! Can you imagine?
